The Plus kit is a significant improvement over the traditional method although not as good as their break-through Qwikkit. Kaiser has also designed the Kaiser Plus kit which includes a labor saving “pre-sized” bronze bushing that does not require reaming. Both suppliers utilize high quality, heat treated steel for strength. These are comparable to the king pins offered by Dayton Parts. First, there is the Kaiser Econokit which is your traditional bronze bushing that requires reaming. The result is the longest lasting kingpin you can buy.įor the budget conscious mechanic Kaiser offers two compromises. Overall, these features improve your ability to keep all parts of the king pin and the steering knuckle lubricated. The king pin itself also is grooved to allow grease to flow under the bushing. The spiral opening in the bushing is designed to keep grease flowing to all parts of the king pin. Kaiser’s Qwikkit has taken king pin replacement a quantum jump ahead of all other solutions with a spiral shaped hard steel bushing that requires no reaming. Bi-metal is the most durable of these, but Kaiser's solution goes beyond that to reduce the wear that destroys bushings. That bushing would either be nylon, a composite material, or steel/bronze bi-metal. Traditionally when replacing a king pin a new bushing would be inserted and reamed to insure a snug fit. Kaiser will tell you that their Qwikkit has an even longer life but 2-3 times is good enough to save you money. The Qwikkit will be the most wear resistant solution giving you two or three times the life of any other kingpin. Thanks to Stemco’s Kaiser Engineering division you have several good options for replacing a king pin with the Kaiser Qwikkit being your wisest investment. The king pin serves as the pivot point which attaches the wheel spindle to the axle beam and may be the most critical component of the front axle. On light duty trucks there are ball joints and idler arms. Our suppliers are Dayton Parts and the Kaiser division of Stemco. On heavy duty trucks these components are king pins, king pin bushings, tie rod ends, and drag links. Therefore Plaza stocks many of the front axle parts that are subject to the most wear. You can expect a lot of wear on the steering components of a truck and with wear comes an unsafe loss of control. ![]()
